I did a bunch of research on Hamilton ancestry on a different page, but now it is time to start anew. My research centered around the idea that I thought I had legitimate Hamilton DNA, but it turns out that my Y Chromosomal DNA says that I am not of the Hamilton Clan at all. I would love to know where this break started, and it is possibly that the break goes back to a certain Jacob Hamilton around the time of the American Revolution, who was possibly adopted by people with the last name, "Hamilton." The records are fuzzy. I had thought that I found a connection, a group of Hamiltons that claimed descent from Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley, but the DNA says otherwise.
It is not likely that I am a true bastard, what an oxymoron! It is likely that our gain of the surname, "Hamilton" goes back generations, as my wife says I look a lot like my dad and his brother. And, both my dad and his brother had striking resemblance to their father, Harry Hamilton, who passed many years ago. Beyond Harry Hamilton's generation, neither I nor my dad met my Great Grandfather.
The DNA says that I have some close kin with the surname Vance, and the surname Jewell.
